After the great advances in electronic information systems, which led to a radical change in concepts of operations and information retrieval. As well as the development of methods and ways Nano and management of information considerably, and the importance of information and knowledge in higher education and scientific research, which represent a different basis for the social and economic renaissance country, the draft network Sudanese universities decree from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Building on this project unit was established networks and the Internet, University of Shendi, in accordance with the administrative decision No. 3 in 2005 to enable the university to gain maximum benefit from the project and achieve its objectives of :

* Linking the University of Shendi network integrated with the use of the Internet service.

* Qualifying and training teachers and students to deal with the Web.

* Design a Web site for the University of Shendi.

* Integrated network linking facultys with the use of databases registration procedures for the students.

* Design sophisticated database to assist in administrative processes.

* Provide a search service and browsing and e-mail free of charge to students and teachers.

* Processing Unit-art equipment and apparatus for linking.

* Appointment of specialized cadres in the area of networking with continuing education.

* Electronic Library.

* Linking the University of Shendi Sudanese universities and scientific research institutions other.

Information service and the use of modern techniques of priorities reported by the University of Shendi in the latest electronic libraries established by the Internet service available in all forms (browsing, messaging, search, video conferences) and the professors, administrators and students. Further, the University of Shendi one of the first universities that have joined the network virtual universities Sudanese.

The functions of the unit : -

1-introduction of the Internet service for all universities.

2-design of a database server through the (server) Basic unity.

3-control and the introduction of data link and the work of a special university mail to exchange messages and correspondence.

4-up and updating of the university.

5-supervising the transfer of university libraries to electronic libraries.

Follow-up Virtual Library Project to establish a private entity, the library and follow developments as well as office locations.

7-TRAIN on the databases (registrars faculty-staff) and the method of entry to the virtual network

What was accomplished during the previous phase : -

1-introduction of the Internet service at :

- Department of the university : the offices and halls.

- faculty of Medicine : an electronic library system capacity of 30, offices of the Department of faculty professors, labs, gallery and the park.

- faculty of Education : electronic library system capacity of 30, offices of the Department of the faculty and the park.

- Law School : electronic library system capacity of 20, offices of the Department of the faculty, and the rest rooms

2-allocation Hall of the Library virtual higher education in the Faculty of Education (Hall forward Malik), to provide Internet service and research, and to engage the global libraries and libraries Sudanese.

3-connected ADSL service in the faculty of Education capacity of 1 MB and increased capacity in the faculty of Medicine, administration and law from 256 to 1MB.

4-link the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, using radio network ((wireless.

5-Establishment of a Web site of the University.

6 - has been holding training courses for workers committed by some university faculties.
